Here are some of the cosmetic benefits associated with Botox®:
  1. Wrinkle reduction: Botox® injections can smooth out wrinkles and lines that are caused by repetitive muscle contractions. It is commonly used to target forehead lines, frown lines (glabellar lines between the eyebrows), and crow's feet (lines around the eyes).

  2. Preventive measure: Botox® can be used as a preventive measure to slow down the formation of wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles responsible for facial movements, Botox® can help prevent the deepening of existing lines and the formation of new wrinkles.

  3. Lift and tighten: Botox® can be strategically injected to create a lifting effect, particularly in areas such as the eyebrows and corners of the mouth. By relaxing certain muscles while leaving others active, Botox® can help create a more lifted and youthful appearance.

  4. Non-surgical alternative: Botox® offers a non-surgical option for those seeking cosmetic improvements. Unlike invasive procedures like facelifts, Botox® injections are minimally invasive and typically have little to no downtime.

  5. Quick results: Botox® injections generally provide quick results, with noticeable improvements appearing within a few days to a week after treatment. This makes it a popular choice for individuals seeking immediate cosmetic enhancements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any Botox downtime?
There's no downtime with Botox, which means you can get on with your day as normal. However, because you might experience some redness or pin prick marks afterwards, you might not want to do it right before a big event. Be sure to avoid exercise, alcohol, aspirin and ibuprofen for the next 24 hours, and don't rub the treated area as it can lead to the toxin moving.

Does Botox hurt?
The needles used for Botox are extremely small, so shouldn't be uncomfortable. Of course, everyone's pain threshold is different, so if you have a particularly low pain tolerance, it may be worth taking paracetamol around an hour before your appointment. You should avoid ibuprofen and other blood thinning medication, though, as this can lead to increased bruising.

How much does Botox last?
The effects of Botox vary from person to person as people metabolise it at different rates. However, on average, the anti-wrinkle injection lasts between 3 and 6 months, after which you'll start to see lines and wrinkles return.

How long does Botox take to work?
How long it takes for the effects of Botox to start varies from person to person, but it generally takes around 3 to 14 days before it kicks in. When this happens, you'll start to see minimised lines and wrinkles.

How long is a Botox appointment?
A. Botox injections are relatively quick and straightforward, and take around just 15 minutes. However, prior to your treatment, you should expect a medical consultation. So allow for around 40 minutes or up to an hour for a wrinkle relaxing appointment.

When should I start getting Botox?
People often start getting Botox from their 30s+, when dynamic fine lines and wrinkles are more visible. This prevents the skin from folding and creasing, giving a younger look. Some people get Botox from their mid-20s as a preventative measure - minimising lines before they have a chance to form. But it's always best to speak to a medically qualified practitioner, have a thorough consultation, to see what treatment they recommend for you.

Can I have Botox if I'm pregnant?
Botox is not suitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to get pregnant. This is due to the fact that there is not enough known about the impact of the toxin on babies and their health. No ethical medical practitioner will conduct anti-wrinkle treatments on a pregnant or breastfeeding woman.

What's the difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox and dermal fillers can both be used to rejuvenate the skin, but, in fact, they work in different ways. Botox relaxes the muscles, reducing movement which minimises dynamic lines, such as forehead lines. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are also injectable treatments, but they work by plumping up lines to smooth them out. Fillers are also used for enhancing features such as the nose and lips.

Is Botox only for women?
Not at all! Many men make Botox part of what they do to care for their appearance.

The number of men choosing treatments like Botox has risen fast.

1. Full Face Botox includes Forehead, Frown lines (the so called 11s), Bunny lines and Crow's Feet.
